One of the most effective ways to save money on gas is to purchase a more fuel-efficient vehicle in the first place. Recently, consumer reports reported 10 trucks and SUV he tested that cost over $100 for a full tank. Although with the current price of gas, it could be even higher. Here are some trucks and SUVs with the worst gas mileage that will cost you an arm and a leg at the gas pump.

1. Consumer Reports trucks and SUVs with terrible gas mileage: The 2022 Ford Expedition

This phenomenal full-size SUV made the list despite high marks in other categories. consumer reports gave it a 73 out of 100 overall, one of the highest scores in its class. However, big SUVs like this tend to be real gas pump tearjers. In testing, the expedition took $122 to fill from empty. Additionally, the Ford SUV averages 11 mpg city and 23 mpg highway for a total of 16 mpg. When full, its 28.3 gallon gas tank can take owners 453 miles without needing to stop and refuel.

2. Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL

The Suburban is in the same class but not as highly rated as the Expedition. Almost everything is shared with the GMC Yukon XL, so gas mileage is the same. Scoring an unfortunate 41 out of 100 overall, the Suburban costs $121 per tank to fill from empty. Its gas mileage is almost the same as Ford’s; only, it averages 22 mpg on the highway instead of 23. Finally, drivers can go 448 miles with their Suburban on a single full 28-gallon tank.

3.Toyota Sequoia

According to Consumer Reports, the Sequoia received second place in the ranking of large SUVs. CR gave it a 69 out of 100 overall, and it starts at $50,500. However, its pretty standard V8 engine will empty your wallet with every visit to the gas station. Additionally, the 2022 Toyota Sequoia averages 10 city, 21 highway and 15 mpg combined. Filling the 26.4-gallon tank empty will cost you $114. Finally, the maximum distance it can travel without stopping to refuel is 396 miles, which is a far cry from the Expedition and Suburban.

4.Nissan Armada

As the third-highest-ranked large SUV on CR’s list, the Armada is an excellent choice overall. Its total score is 55 out of 100, but it received no points for fuel economy. CR reported that the Armada’s 26-gallon gas tank required at least $112 to fill from empty. Plus, this tank will then only take you 364 miles before you have to drop another Franklin off at the pump. Nissan’s large SUV gets an abysmal 10 city, 20 highway and 14 mpg combined.

As the luxury equivalent of the Nissan Armada, its numbers aren’t too different. The stated cost of CR to fill the tank from empty is the same $112 as the Armada. However, it averaged one mpg better than the Armada on city and highway roads. Overall, it received a slightly better score of 58 out of 100, but was ranked against large luxury SUVs. Using the same 26-gallon fuel tank, the QX80 can go 390 miles non-stop, which is surprisingly much better than the Armada.

6. Cadillac Escalade

As one of the more expensive options on the list, the Escalade is definitely not a good option for those who need to save money on gas. Starting at $76,295, the Escalade averages 10 mpg city and 23 mpg highway and costs CR$104 to fill empty. Its 24-gallon fuel tank is good enough for a 384-mile road trip without stopping. At number four on CR’s list of large luxury SUVs, it’s probably not worth the price with that kind of fuel economy.

7.Chevrolet Tahoe

Like the Suburban and Yukon XL, the Tahoe’s numbers are the same as the GMC Yukon. This model performed poorly in Consumer Reports ratings, scoring just 39 out of 100. Additionally, the Tahoe averages 11 mpg city and 24 mpg highway, and CR lost $104 at the gas pump. However, its 24-gallon gas tank can take you further than the Escalade or QX80 for a lower price. A full tank of Tahoe fuel will get you 408 miles without spending at the pump.

8. Consumer Reports: The Nissan Titan consumes a lot of gas

As one of the most underrated pickup trucks available, the Nissan Titan doesn’t do a thing very well. That one thing? Avoid the gas pump. Overall, the Titan averages 16 mpg, including 11 mpg city and 22 mpg highway. This affordable pickup received a 55 out of 100 from CR, ranking it fourth among full-size trucks. Additionally, the publication filled the fuel tank for $112. Its 26-gallon gas tank holds enough liquid gold to take a driver and passengers up to 416 miles, on average.

9. A premium pickup with terrible fuel economy: the 2022 Ram 1500

Consumer Reports’ top-rated full-size pickup truck doesn’t get good gas mileage. The Ram 1500 gets 11 mpg city and 24 highway with its 26-gallon fuel tank. CR was charged $112 to fill it empty and claims it will go up to 416 miles non-stop. Despite similar fuel economy to others on this list, its number one overall ranking and low starting price of $35,900 make the Ram 1500 a little more desirable.

10. Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500

Like other Chevy models, the Silverado 1500 shares its fuel economy with a GMC sibling. The GMC Sierra 1500 and Silverado average 11 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. Plus, the pickup uses a 24-gallon fuel tank to extend your ride up to 408 miles without stopping. Finally, CR found that it took $104 to fill it from empty.
