Each year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) tests a range of vehicles and determines which are the safest. They award the safest vehicles the title Top Safety Pick + and the Top Safety Pick to the second level safest vehicles. These are just some of the safest 2022 SUVs you can buy.

To earn a Top Safety Pick+ title, a vehicle must have:

  • Good grades in:
    • Driver side small overlap front test
    • Passenger side small overlap front test
    • Moderate overlap frontal test
    • Tests of the original side, the strength of the roof and the head restraints
  • Advanced or Superior for frontal collision prevention available for vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian assessments
  • Acceptable or good headlights standard on all trim levels
