The Best Discontinued SUVs That Should Make a Comeback

Trends come and go, and so do cars, trucks, and SUVs like the Toyota Land Cruiser. The world may be moving towards electric vehicles, but is there room for some of these discontinued SUVs in the future? Toyota thinks so, which is why the FJ Cruiser sport utility vehicle could return as an electric vehicle. What else makes the list?
The Toyota Land Cruiser is a discontinued SUV that should come back
Thanks to its cult followings, choosing the Toyota Land Cruiser as your favorite discontinued SUV is almost like cheating. Toyota discontinued the Land Cruiser SUV in 2021 thanks to weak sales in the United States. With the slogan “There is much more to explore”, the curtain has closed on this Toyota sport utility vehicle after 60 years.
According to Toyota Motor North America 2021 year-end sales figures, the automaker sold just 3,711 Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs. Of course, these weren’t exactly easy to find and wouldn’t be found on any concession land. In 2020, the Cruiser sold 3,147 units. But distance makes the heart stronger. Toyota is focusing on more popular vehicles like the 2022 Tundra pickup truck and 4Runner SUV, which recently received major updates. Perhaps the Land Cruiser will return with a vengeance and a significant facelift in the next few years.
The Pontiac Aztek is another discontinued SUV that might have a bigger following now

Did you know that the Pontiac Aztek started out as a combination of two fairly popular Chevrolet vehicles? That’s right, the Aztek is actually a combination of the Chevy Camaro and the Chevy Blazer. The idea was to take the Camaro and the Blazer to create a sort of “wide, low, powerful, all-terrain thing called Bear Claw.”
Then someone at GM stepped in and decided that the Aztek should take more inspiration from the popular minivans in the area. With 185 hp, the Pontiac Aztek was doomed from the start. But right now, nostalgia is all the rage. People would probably buy a new Aztek without irony right now if it offered good fuel economy. So yes, the Pontiac Aztek is a discontinued SUV that should be back.
What if the Toyota FJ Cruiser came back as an electric sport utility vehicle?

Did he need two Toyota SUVs on this list? Yes, that’s why the Toyota FJ Cruiser is here. The FJ Cruiser had an odd look that didn’t really take the market by storm. It was meant to be a futuristic yet also retro design that was a nod to classic FJ Land Cruisers. Instead, it was kinda funny and had a lot of plastic inside.
However, just like the Aztek, there’s probably room for the FJ Cruiser in today’s world. It could also be why Toyota showed off what looked like an electric FJ Cruiser concept at the end of 2021. That means there may be hope that this discontinued SUV from Toyota will come back with a new transfer.
Is nostalgia reason enough to dredge up some of these abandoned SUVs? It depends on who you ask. People are very big fans of the Toyota Land Cruiser, which could translate to increased sales after a long vacation away from the US market.
