Silverado, Sierra Trucks recalled to repair brake lamp
DETROIT — General Motors has agreed to recall certain 2022 model year GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 full-size pickup trucks equipped with accessory sport bars that may have defective rear-facing brake lamps.
The 242 pickup trucks in the recalled population may have the accessory installed by the dealer, which may violate Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, “Lamps, Reflectors, and Related Equipment.” .
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-463“These vehicles may have been equipped upon delivery with a dealer installed accessory sport bar which (a) contains a high mounted brake light which will not function if installed in accordance with the instructions provided and (b) blocks the raised bar existing vehicle brake light. »
The agency identified the safety risk as visually blocking the high-mounted brake light could lead to an accident.
The cause is incorrect installation instructions for the accessory sports bar. The remedy is a replacement wiring kit/repair instructions from a franchise dealer.
Dealers were notified of the recall in late June. Owners must be informed from August 15e.
