Pickup trucks come in all shapes and sizes these days. Finding a reliable used pickup truck can be like finding a needle in a haystack, but Consumer Reports is here to help. Check out options below like the Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma.

The 2020 Ford Ranger is one of Consumer Reports’ picks for reliable used pickup trucks

Check it out! The 2020 Ford Ranger is the first on consumer reports most recent list. As a reliable two-year-old used pickup truck, the 2020 Ranger is well worth seeking out. It performed well in the road test and received an above-average rating for reliability. Owner satisfaction is just average so far. Those same owners reported a total of 22 mpg, but Consumer Reports only hit 20 mpg at the Auto Test Center. Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) are standard. Blind Spot Warning (BSW) and Rear Cross Traffic Warning (RCTW) are optional on the base trim, but are standard on the other available trim levels.

Those looking for a reliable used pickup truck have probably stumbled upon the 2016 Toyota Tacoma. The Tacoma offers reliability and off-road capability in a reasonably priced pickup package. Consumer Reports gave the Toyota Tacoma an average score in the road test and the same with the owner satisfaction score. Toyota trucks are here for the long haul, though the lack of driver assistance and crash response features may hold the Tacoma back.

The 2020 Chevrolet Colorado can tow 7,000 pounds

Since the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado is a bit newer, it has an edge over some older pickups. Consumer Reports gave it high marks on road test and reliability sector. The owner satisfaction score was a little below average. Buyers can look for a V6 or four-cylinder diesel engine, both of which can tow 7,000 pounds or more. FCW and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) are available but not included. No AEB or BSW is available.

The truck has 401 hp from a 6.6L V8 or a 445 hp 6.6L turbodiesel this year. GMC equipped the 2500HD with FCW, AEB, LDW, BSW and RCTW. GM says it can tow over 35,000 pounds when properly equipped.

The 2014 Honda Ridgeline is still rolling eight years later

Even though the 2014 Honda Ridgeline is quite old, it is still a reliable used pickup truck option. Consumer Reports gave it above-average scores in the road test and in the owner satisfaction categories. The reliability score was well above average, however. The Honda Ridgeline isn’t your traditional pickup truck, but it looks better for it anyway. It can tow 5,000 pounds and also has a waterproof lockable trunk to store valuables.

Price range: $19,150 – $24,225

The older you get, the more likely your truck is to have problems. However, this does not seem to be the case with all trucks. Toyota and GM are known for making trucks that last well over 200,000 miles. If you need a reliable used pickup truck, check out some of the pickup truck options above.
