If You Buy One Of These 2022 Small Pickup Trucks, You Better Have Night Vision
Headlights are important for a variety of reasons, but the most important of these is to not bump into things. While all cars, SUVs and trucks to have headlights, their proper functioning may be another story. These are the three pickup trucks with the worst headlights you can buy in 2022.
Half of fatal car accidents happen at night
Half of all fatal crashes happen in the dark, according to the IIHS, and more than a quarter of those crashes happen on unlit roads. As you can imagine, headlights are useful on unlit roads unless you have night vision (and you don’t unless you’re Iron Man).
The simple fact that a vehicle possesses headlights does not mean they are good. Headlights need to be bright enough and even point in the right direction to be optimal. The curve-adaptive headlights are fantastic and help the headlights illuminate the path in front of them, even on bends and bends in the road.
To complicate matters, there is no consistency around the rules regarding headlights. This means that headlights can range from mediocre to good (with marginal and adequate in between). Headlamp ratings can prevent an otherwise safe vehicle from receiving a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ award.
For this reason, many car manufacturers strengthen their headlights. Still, these three pickups with the worst headlights might as well not have any at all. Let’s see what they are.
The 2022 Nissan Titan is one of the pickup trucks with the worst headlights

According to IIHS, not one but two Nissan Titan pickups have bad headlights. The Crew Cab and Extended Cab of the 2022 Nissan Titan get a bad rating. If you think a bad grade sounds like the worst a truck can get, you’re right. That’s why it’s particularly disappointing that the only headlights available on either of these Nissan trucks get a low rating.
The Nissan Titan is fitted with halogen reflector bulbs which do not fit around curves. The IIHS says visibility around curves was poor and dipped headlights created excessive glare.

The IIHS doesn’t like the headlights on the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited. It tested all four variations of the new Sierra’s headlights and rated them all as poor. As with the Nissan Titan, the GMC Sierra 1500’s low beam headlights create glare. Also, visibility was poor around the corners.
The high beams don’t fare any better. Even straight away, visibility on the right side of the road was good and poor on the left side of the road. The only positive is that the high beam assist solves some of the low beam shortcomings.

The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 LTD is no better than the 2022 Nissan Titan or the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited when it comes to headlights. The IIHS tested five versions of the Silverado’s headlights and found them to be poor. Straight-line visibility with the SIlverado was good with low beams and good on the right side with high beams but fair on the left side. In addition, dipped headlights create glare.
If you want a pickup truck with good headlights, you can consider most other large pickup trucks. Just be sure to pay attention to the headlights of the trim level you buy – it could save your life.
