Chevy trucks fail to impress consumer reports

consumer reports is one of the most reliable sources to review, well, everything. There are specific criteria on which CR judges its pickup options trucks. For the 2022 model year, Chevy trucks fail to impress Consumer Reports. What’s wrong with ChevyMidsize and Full-Size Models, and Why Aren’t They Good Enough? We take a look at the 2022 Chevy Silverado and 2022 Chevy Colorado reviews to find out.
Where Do Chevy Trucks Rank With Consumer Reports?
First, the 2022 Chevy Silverado ranks fifth in the full-size pickup segment. Since it’s one of the most popular models in the US, along with the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150, we think it could be in the top three for quality. However, it falls short of those models and the Ford F-250 and Nissan Titan. consumer reports ranked behind only its corporate equivalent, the GMC Sierra 1500, and the Ram 1500 Classic.
Then, in the compact category, Chevy offers the Colorado. Even worse than its big brother, the 2022 Chevy Colorado is ranked seventh out of eight options. Of course, that’s not counting its corporate equivalent, the GMC Canyon, with which it shares an overall rating. Only the overpriced Jeep Gladiator is behind Chevy’s compact truck. New models like the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz even jumped ahead in the rankings with longtime leaders like the Toyota Tacoma, Honda Ridgeline, Ford Ranger and Nissan Frontier.

Overall, CR gave the Silverado a score of 46 out of 100. Most notably, it loses many points for predicted reliability, which is based on previous model years. For every model year since the Silverado’s initial production, it has been below average or very poor in terms of reliability. In recent years, it has gotten even worse. As of 2015, the Silverado has a “worst” reliability score, the lowest possible from CR.
Also, owner satisfaction isn’t great either. CR takes the time to interview many previous model year owners and see if they would buy the model again. Most people give a definite “no” answer, which is why owner satisfaction is still low for this full-size truck. Finally, the fuel economy is abysmal, receiving a score of 1 out of 5 possible points. The 2022 Chevy Silverado gets 11 mpg city and 24 mpg highway.
Things Consumer Reports Doesn’t Like About the 2022 Chevy Colorado
On the other hand, the compact Colorado has a slightly lower score of 45 out of 100. It’s better than the Silverado in terms of reliability, but barely. Its lowest-ranked area is customer satisfaction, which indicates owners refuse to repurchase the model. Historically, reliability and customer satisfaction have been an issue, so RS recommends avoiding long-term ownership of the Chevy Colorado.
Next, the publication points out that the ride is “steep and choppy” inside Colorado. With other options like the Honda Ridgeline offering luxurious interiors and smooth rides, it’s hard to justify buying Chevy’s compact truck. Also, CR doesn’t like the Colorado’s 3.6-liter V6 engine, which he claims is “short of torque.”

For full-size models, classic, reliable, and premium options like the Ram 1500, Ford F-150, and even the Nissan Titan bring more to the table. There are so many better options in the midsize or compact segment that we can’t list them all. Consumer Reports loves the underrated Honda Ridgeline for its luxurious interior and smooth ride, crushing the competition. In short, Chevy trucks of all sizes fail to impress Consumer Reports and previous owners.
