  • A new Cadillac electric crossover has been spy tested, which will slot under the Lyriq in the Cadillac lineup as the brand seeks to go fully electric by 2030.
  • The EV compact crossover appears to share many design cues with the Lyriq, with split taillights and a sloping rear windshield.
  • The new electric crossover is expected to go on sale in late 2024 as a 2025 model year vehicle.

Cadillac’s push toward an electric range is underway. Delivery of Cadillac’s first electric vehicle, the Lyriq crossover, are just getting started, and the Celestiq concept will be a handcrafted, ultra-expensive flagship when it enters production for 2025. Now we’ve got a look at one of the smaller, more traditional EVs of Cadillac, with spy photos showing the automaker testing a smaller crossover that will sit under the Lyriq.

Overall, this prototype seems to share many design elements with its big brother. Although clearly reduced in width, wheelbase and overall length, the new EV shares a similar shape to the Lyriq with a steeply raked rear window. However, the bonnet is much shorter than on Lyriq, as are the front and rear overhangs.

Camouflage obscures most detail, but vertical lighting can be spotted in the corners of the front end, suggesting similar LED elements framing the grille as seen on the Lyriq. The rear also appears to mimic the Lyriq with two-piece taillights – one vertical element mounts the D-pillar and while another vertical lighting unit sits below.

The most interesting design element is a centrally mounted vertical brake light that appears to grow like a fin from the middle of the rear windshield. The brake light also appears to be topped with a winged trim piece, which may be a temporary detail for testing or could help the car’s aerodynamics.

According to Automotive News, the compact electric crossover will be built at General Motors’ Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico. The name of the compact electric crossover is not yet known, but it will probably end in “iq” and Cadillac has trademarked “Ascendiq”, “Lumistiq” and “Vistiq”. The Cadillac EV compact crossover is expected to arrive in late 2024 for the 2025 model year.
