(Photos by Darr Hawthorne) • It’s great to see the awesome shows return, but one thing is clear, the hot rodders, painters, and customizers have had a good time working and finishing their builds. The 2022 Ventura Nationals, held on the beach at the Ventura, California Fairgrounds, was filled with some of the finest examples of today’s Kustom Kulture.
There were more finished and painted rods than we’ve seen recently at this annual event on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. The attention to detail and paint quality was amazing to see, inside and out of the old WWII buildings. No wonder it’s so hard to get a car painted in California today. Rockabilly bands play all day and the beer is flowing.
Even with the heat wave blanketing the West, it’s always cooler at the beach and to avoid bumper-to-bumper traffic, Amtrak will drop you right in front of the lounge entrance. If you plan to stay until Sunday, many attendees are taking part in a reliability race, out of a park in downtown Ventura.
Enjoy our gallery with one hundred hot rods from this year’s Ventura Nationals.
