2 electric trucks worth the wait

Electric pickups are slowly emerging from popular automakers. Rivian and Ford were the first brands to mass-produce electric pickup trucks for consumers. Chevrolet and Ram will follow in the footsteps of these brands and produce their own electric pickup trucks.

The Chevy Silverado EV has great potential

The Chevy Silverado 1500 is far from the best in its class, but it remains one of the best-selling pickup trucks in its vehicle segment. The final model year of the Silverado is praised for its handling, numerous powerful powertrain options and interior upgrades. The Silverado EV can build on the progress of the full-size pickup and move up the ranks.

General Motors CEO Mary Barra says the Silverado EV has the potential to be the best electric pickup truck. Although it’s too early to tell where it will end up, the Silverado EV RST version has some impressive specs.

The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST starts at $105,000. It has an incredible range of 400 miles. The electric Chevrolet Silverado will develop more than 660 horsepower and more than 780 lb-ft of torque. It can go from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4.5 seconds. This thing is a beast.

The average consumer won’t come close to the RST’s six-figure price tag, but it’s nice to see Chevy pushing the envelope with its electric truck. It proves that speed and power aren’t strictly reserved for thirsty trucks and their big V8 engines.

The presence of the 2024 Ram 1500 EV is felt

The Ram 1500 is the king of full-size pickups. It may not sell as well as the popular Ford F-150, but its quality is undisputed. From its smooth ride to its plush interior, the Ram 1500 is a force to be reckoned with. That might explain why Ram doesn’t seem to be in a rush to roll out the 2024 Ram 1500 EV.

Ram has established a solid reputation and identity for its half-ton pickup. The presence of the electrified version is felt, even if the brand has only teased it so far. Expectations are high because of what Ram already brings to the table. If the Ram 1500 EV doesn’t prove to be a contender for the best electric truck spot, it’ll be a huge disappointment.

Ram has kept most major details about the 1500 EV under wraps. Sometimes a little mystery is enough to keep consumers curious. Is Ram secretly planning to crush the competition? Car and driver estimates the Ram electric truck will start at around $45,000.

Full-size pickup trucks like the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 are responsible for a large percentage of new vehicle sales. The future of full-size pickups is trucks with electric powertrains. Why? Electric vehicles can be just as powerful and will become more practical over time.

Nameplates like the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T are paving the way for a new segment of vehicles. The age of the electric truck has arrived, and soon millions of Americans could be driving electric pickup trucks.
